| This painting started as a pencil drawing of a young model called Gina. Her remarkable face inspired me to cast her as a Byzantine Saint. I wanted to use paint to suggest the glow of gold leaf in the background, to be contained by the strong pattern of her clothes and the bright red at her centre. | |||||
