Hangzhou is renowned for its West Lake and its forested hills. It is several hours drive West of Shanghai.

Hangzhou.
From Shanghai, we flew to Guilin. The stunning landscapes here are filled with limestone karsts, the huge stone pillars which are often riddled with magnificent caves. This is a view of a part of Guilin from Mt Die Cai.

A beautiful lake near the Reed Flute Caves, in Guilin.
The Reed Flute Cave, Guilin. This is a spectacular cave system carved out of the limestone mountains. I chose this shot as it reminded me of the limestone karsts along the Li River.
We had a most enjoyable 4 hour cruise along the Li River.

The locals use these bamboo rafts to carry goods and passengers.
Mature bamboo groves and the occasional house line the river banks of the Li River.
Yangshou is a small town on the Li River. In the local park, the ladies were busy playing a game of cards of some kind.

From Guilin we flew to Kunming, but that was where the Baker's Cyst put an end to our China Tour. Better luck next time!
