The Golden Calf meets the Burning Bush and is Perplexed
This is a painting from 1970 which I have recently scanned from an old slide, using the incredibly powerful HP Scanjet G3010 scanner. As with "St George and the Dragon", I was influenced at the time by the technological pessimism of Martin Heidegger. In this instance, the mechanical Golden Calf turns its head in the direction of the electronic towers on the top of the mountain to seek answers.

I remain a sceptic (and possibly a pessimist), but my scepticism now often applies to those who appear to be unreasonably terrified of the progress of technology. It remains a race between our complete destruction by technology or being saved in the nick of time by its amazing advances.
